The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Hello Everyone,

Just checking back in. Last week I took a vacation out to the sunny Cancun Mexico

Tons of fun and the weather was pristine

Too bad I have to be back here in cold and snow indiana

I didn't bring my camera as to not risk it getting lost or stolen. If I go back I will for sure bring it, there were plenty of photo-ops there. I'd highly recommend going there for anyone, they have quiet areas and party areas, so they cater to the crazy and the calm alike

Very safe too, the security is very good there, just stay in the hotel zones and don't venture into areas that seem shady and you'll be fine

Probably a wide choice to not take your good camera, but a point n shoot might have been just right.

There was nothing to worry about in Cancun. As long as you stay in the Hotel zones and don't stray off you are perfectly fine. And they have everything you need in the protected areas so there is no need to leave them. The mexican government will protect you, they know if any incident happens it would be detrimental to an already struggling economy they have, tourism in their biggest income so they won't risk any issues. cancun alone had 2000 undercover agents patrolling the streets. I'm sure the same goes for the other tourist hot spots in mexico.
